About Alastair Teague

Alastair Teague is based at Riverbank Court, just a stone's throw from the River Taw and a short drive from the vibrant village of Braunton in North Devon. Established as a solo woodworking practice, Alastair Teague focuses on bespoke furniture-making, offering clients the chance to collaborate on unique, heirloom-quality pieces that blend artistic design with functionality.

Alastair began his journey into fine furniture-making after a decade-long career as an engineer. Drawn to the craft of working with his hands, he studied at Rowden Atelier in Devon. There, he honed traditional woodworking techniques, mastering hand tools and developing a passion for flowing, organic designs inspired by nature and geometry. Every piece crafted at Alastair Teague is made with meticulous care and attention, designed to stand the test of time.

Alastair offers bespoke services, working closely with clients from initial consultation through design, sign-off, scheduling, and final delivery. In addition to custom pieces, a range of watch, jewellery, and medal boxes will be released in limited batches, as well as a small selection of “off-the-shelf” furniture items.

Artist’s statement:

At the heart of my design philosophy is a fascination with the intersection of nature and geometry. I draw inspiration from the elegant, flowing forms found in the natural world and explore how the language of geometry weaves itself through both nature and human design. This fusion of organic shapes and structured patterns informs every piece I create.

Each project starts with quick sketches and doodles, a free-flowing process where ideas are tested and shaped. The materials I use are of the highest quality, carefully selected to enhance both the form and function of the final piece. Clients are invited to take part in the material selection, ensuring that every aspect of the furniture reflects their vision.

Building on my background in engineering and my deep love for design, I strive to create pieces that not only meet the demands of modern living but also evoke an emotional connection. Design is what allows me to see the world differently, transforming ideas into tangible objects that are as beautiful as they are functional. I believe furniture should be more than just functional—it should be cherished, loved, and passed down through generations. Whether crafting a bespoke chair, a one-of-a-kind table, or a finely detailed jewellery box, I aim to create timeless designs that tell a story and resonate with those who use them.
